Saving Souls - With Holy Spirit Inspired Scriptures

holy spirit

saving souls,

Bible is more misunderstood by a lot of people. In fact, if we do not have a clear understanding of what had happened in the first, when Adam and Eve disobeyed the word of God, then we will not be having a good understanding of what Jesus Christ accomplished as a Savior.

What exactly happened when Adam disobeyed the word of God?

Why should we need a savior?

What did Jesus Christ restore?

What was the promised gift of God to the children of Christ?

Why do we need the Holy Spirit?

Why wasn’t the Holy Spirit available before the day of Pentecost?

Is Holy Spirit available for everyone now?

How can we get Holy Spirit into our hearts?

What is water baptism?

What is Spiritual Baptism?

Do we need both water and spiritual Baptisms to get into the kingdom of God?

Do we get Holy Spirit the day we get water Baptism or some other day?

How do we know that we have received Holy Spirit or not?

Before getting answers to all these questions let us have the clear understanding of the scriptures.

Genesis 2:17, “… in the day that you eat thereof you shall surely die”

After God made man, He imposed a restriction upon him and He also told him what will be the penalty if this restriction is violated.

The restriction God imposed on Adam was that he should not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

When God said “… in the day..” it meant ‘that very same day’. It means if Adam ate from the tree, death would happen immediately in that very same day and it would happen surely (“…. you shall surely die”) in that very same day.

Well, Adam and Eve ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Having done that according to what God had said, they should have died that very moment. The problem here is that Adam and Eve continued to live for many years. Did they die as God said or did they not die? Since God cannot lie (Numbers 23:19), they did surely die in the very same day.

The serpent said, “You shall not surely die” when it deceived Eve. Thus, if they didn’t die that day as God said, then the serpent was right and God was wrong which is simply impossible. Yes they surely died on that day. However, since they continued to have life in their bodies it is evident that they had another form of life that died on that day. And for this reason, which was death. They lost another form of their life. Knowledge of what composed the life of the Adam will enable us to see what was lost in that day.

Genesis 3:19 says that the physical body was never created to live for ever. Our god tells us why the body returns to the ground because, it is made of dust and it will return to dust, but not because of sin. All physical things will eventually decay and return to the ground.

Genesis 2:7 “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and man became a living soul. When body was formed with dust it was not having life, it was formed just without life. Therefore, what is soul? The soul is life to the body. The word of God tells us that the breath of God is what gives life to the body. Ref: Job 35:11, 38:8, 34:14-15, 33:4, 27:23. Isaiah 57:16. Without the soul the body is dead. Without breath the body is dead. Without the oxygen body is dead. But where is the soul, the life of the body, the life of the flesh? Leviticus 17:11-14 says “For the life of the flesh is in the blood you shall not eat blood……. For the blood is the life of all flesh, the blood of it is for the life…..” The soul is what gives life to the body, which is in the blood; oxygen is in the blood, which is breath of life. Actually, soul is not something that only man has, animals have a soul also, which, again, is in the blood, as it is said in Leviticus, “the life of all flesh is in the blood.”

When God created all living creatures all animals had the breath of life in their nostrils. Therefore, not only man, but also the animals have soul or life. We understand that, soul is what gives life to the body, therefore when we die, there is no more life, no more soul. The same happens with the animals. So soul is not immortal. If soul was immortal, then the souls of the various animals would also be immortal since they have soul.  Soul is not something immortal. It just gives life to the body. If a soul could not die, then there would be no need to ‘save a soul from death’ James 5:20. The clearly teaches…..

First-----God alone possesses immortality (1Timothy 1:17, 6:16)

Second--Men should be seekers of immortality (Romans 2:5-7)

Third----Immortality can be found in the gospel(2 Timothy1:10)

Forth----If man puts on immortality, it will be conferred upon him at the last trumpet(1Cor 15:51-54)

Every man in the world, believer or non-believer has body and soul. It can therefore be concluded that, since Adam died at 930 Years of age after he had partaken of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, his body or soul obviously did not die during that time. Thus, since something had to die for Adam that day, he originally should have had at least one more part, which was lost, which died, when he ate the fruit.

Genesis 1:26-27 … and God said “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness”…so God created man in His own image, in the image of God created male and female.

John 4:24 tells us “God is Spirit”. God is not flesh but spirit. That is His image. Therefore, when the word of God tells us that He created man according to His image, it means that, in addition to soul when God breathed into nostrils of Adam, Adam received which is according to God the image and likeness of God…Spirit. It simply means that Adam was given a part of God’s spirit, which had glory. God is not flesh. He does not have physical feet, hands, head etc. Without spirit Adam could not fellowship or walk with God. God being spirit does not fellowship with a body and soul of physical senses alone.

We cannot receive the messages of the radio station unless you have a radio receiver. Similarly, God is spirit, and to communicate with Him we must receive spirit. Without spirit there is darkness in our heart when we receive spirit we receive light (Psalms: 18: 28 – My God (spirit) turns my darkness into light.) Body and soul are enough for things of the five senses. But when it comes to the things of the God, we must receive his spirit (John 1:12, 1John 1). 1Corinthians 2:14 – “But the natural man without the spirit does not accept the things that come from the spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he can not understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.” A natural man means ‘a soul man’ (a man with a body and soul and without spirit). According to 1 Corinthians 2: 14, a man who is content with being body and soul only will not receive the things of the spirit of God. ‘They are spiritually discerned’ means since they lack spirit, they can not know the things of God. To receive the things of the Spirit of God, to communicate with God, to fellowship with God and walk with God we need the appropriate receiver… Spirit.

Summarizing all the above Adam had

BODY formed from the dust,

SOUL that gives life to the body and

SPIRIT to communicate with God.

Adam had body and soul even after he ate the fruit from the tree. Since Adam was body soul and spirit before he ate, and since, as we saw he continued to have body and soul after he ate the fruit, what was lost for him that day was the spirit and the Glory that the spirit had. He continued to have body and soul but not the spirit. The spirit departed from him and this was death for him, since spirit a form of eternal life that he had before was no longer there.

James 2:26 “ For as the body without spirit is dead”

Matthew 8:22 Jesus told him – “follow me and let the dead bury their dead”.

God considered people without spirit as dead persons no matter how long they live.

According to the word of God - Genesis 2:7, 3:19 … The natural man should return to dust of the ground, just like all animals return to the ground. For the spiritual man body should return to the ground and spirit shall return to the God who gave it (Ecclesiastes 12:7).

This lost spirit, God wanted to restore in man. People did not understand God’s plan.

If we read the OLD TESTAMENT, God put His Spirit upon those that He wanted to communicate with. God put it upon them to give them revelation. This does not mean that spirit was available to everyone. If god wanted to communicate with someone, He put His Spirit upon him or her. Moses had Spirit upon him. Actually it was God that decided to put his spirit upon Moses. The same is for those seventy men as well. The Spirit of god was upon them, not because they decided to receive it but because God wanted to make possible communication with them (Numbers 11th chp.). (Judges 3:9-10) Othniel had the Spirit of God upon him. God put it for the purpose of judging Israel and to communicate with him. (Judges 6:33-34) Gedeon had the Spirit upon him because god chose him. (1st Samuel 15th, and 16th chpt) King Saul, the first king of Israel had God’s Spirit upon him, when he disobeyed God, the spirit of God that was upon him departed from him. After the death of Adam’s spirit God did not give his spirit to anyone. But he rested upon some chosen people and left them when the work is done.

The Prophets of Old Testament prophesied through the spirit of God, when the spirit rested upon them, they spoke the words of God and when the spirit left them THE WORD also left them. 2 Peter 1:21 “for prophesy never had it’s origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the spirit of God.”

John 1:1-5, in the beginning was the word, and the word was with the God (Spirit), and the Word was God (Spirit). In the beginning the Spirit of God first spoke and made all the things of the universe. Through the Spirit the Word of God comes out. So the Spirit and Word are not separate, as your words and your body are not separate. Your words come from your soul, but God’s Words come from His Spirit. The Spirit of God with the WORD was in the world, and though world was made through him, the world did not recognize him, because God did not have body.

God’s plan was to give his Spirit back to men and make them His children. Since absence of God’s Spirit in them, they could not see God who tried to talk to them through the chosen people, they did not understand the Words of God. They started sinning against God, and Godlessness made them to do all evil things. God wanted to save them from evil and wickedness. He promised to save them from wickedness.

All most all prophets prophesized about Messiah, anointed one with the Spirit of God. Ref: Isaiah 11: 1-5, 42: 1-4 etc. Messiah means Christ or anointed. Jesus means savior. Jesus is a promised savior to the mankind. God sent Messiah to this world to restore the spirit of God in people, that was lost by Adam. Through Jesus Christ (Messiah) everything that is written about him in the Old Testament, The Law of Moses, The prophets, and The Psalms has been fulfilled, repentance and forgiveness of sins has been preached in his name to all nations, the promised gift of God (Holy Spirit) also been sent to the world, and made available to everyone who believes Jesus as their savior and messiah (Christ ), who was anointed with God’s Spirit to do his will (Luke 24:49, Joel 2:28-32). God has promised Holy Spirit to everyone who truly believes in his only son who was born with Holy Spirit. Ref: Ephe 1:13, John 14:15-21, Isaiah32:14-17, Joel 2:28-32,Luke24-49, Proverbs 1:23, Isa 44:3, 59:21, Eze 36:27, Acts 2:38-39, 13:32, 1John 2:20,27, 2Corin 1:21, 2Cori5:5, 3:30, Romans 8:9,14,16,19,15:8, 14:17, Titus 3:5, Hebrews 10:23.

The Holy Spirit was not available to everyone at the time of Jesus Christ when he walked on this earth. Holy Spirit came down from heaven and lived and remained in Jesus until Jesus was Glorified. John 7:39 says .. “for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because that Jesus was not yet glorified”. The lost Spirit was restored in the day of Pentecost, and made available to everybody. So that today, after believing in Jesus Christ we are able to receive Holy Spirit. After receiving Holy Spirit we are again Body-Soul-Spirit.

Jesus said in John 3: 1-6, no man enters the kingdom of God if he is not born again with the spirit (from the above). What does ‘born from above’ mean? Birth that was given by parents is natural birth, through this birth we receive only body and soul. Our God tells us that there is one more birth which is required to see the kingdom of God. Since we are dead in spirit by the sin of our physical father Adam, we need to born again in the spirit of God. How? John 3:6 Flesh gives birth to flesh and Spirit gives birth to Spirit. To born again we need Holy Spirit. In John 1:33 John the Baptist tells that, the one who sent me told that “ The man on whom you see the Spirit come down from above and remain is he who will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”

The Spirit of God came down from heavens and remained in Jesus until he was glorified. In John 6:41 the father speaks through Jesus “I am the bread (Spirit) that came from heaven”. We should born again means we should receive his Spirit to have a complete unity with God. Jesus called the Spirit, his father. In John 14:10 Jesus said “The father is in me. The Words I say to you are not just my own, rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing His work.” The Spirit of God lived in Jesus when he walked on this earth and the words spoken by Jesus are the words of the Father the God. In John 16-32 Jesus says “yet I am not alone, for my father is with me.” In John 8:29 Jesus says “The one who sent me is with me, He has not left me alone, for I always do what pleases Him.” God sent His only son born with Holy Spirit to fulfill His will. God’s will was to save the world from wickedness and redeem everyone from the bondage of sin, to put a stop for animal sacrifices (which could not clear people’s consciences), and give peace, joy and rest to their souls. Which is possible only through the Holy Spirit of God.

When Adam lost the Spirit, all the generations were without Spirit. Godlessness led them to do evil things. When Jesus was glorified, God made Jesus to sit on His throne and gave authority over heavens, on earth and over everything under the seas and left heavens and made available himself to everyone on this earth in the form of Holy Spirit, the comforter.

So, the Spirit of God from the beginning, - the Spirit came from the above and lived in Jesus and bore all pains, sufferings on cross along with Jesus Christ and remained until he was glorified, - and the Holy Spirit available to day as comforter is one and the same.

So, God is same yesterday, today and forever. Father, Son and Holy Spirit are one.

Baptism shows that a person has died to the old nature of life and has been raised to a new kind of life. Baptism means immerse, dip or submerge is used in Isaiah 44:3- 4 to mean "go down and perish" - to perish the old nature and complete renewal of new nature, the change in the believer's life and testifying to death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ as the way of salvation. The water baptism is the symbolic form of purifying body before Holy Spirit baptism. The water baptism is the preparation for repentant sinners to receive Baptism of Holy Spirit and fire.

The baptism we take in water resembles the birth from womb. Just like baby coming out of the water in the womb. When we enter into the water, while we take baptism, it reminds us that we are still in the womb, but when we come out of the water, it reminds us that we are born again to have Spirit of God, with a new nature, the nature of Spirit. Now we are not natural men anymore with only body- soul, but we are spiritual men with body-soul-Spirit. Before we were called sons of man, now we are sons of God. The word of God tells us that the women may forget their children, but God will never forget or forsake them, because he lives in them, wherever they go, God goes with them. Matthew 16:26 “what good will it be for a man if he gains the world, yet forfeits his soul”. If your soul is not bound with Spirit what is the use?

God has given every power to Jesus Christ, even the power of raising your body and soul from the death and to give you a glorious body. When Jesus Christ rose again from the death, he gave us hope to be rose again from the death.

When we receive Holy Spirit, the Spirit dwells in us. Now we are the Holy Temples of our God. In Corinthians 6:9-20, it is written like this – ‘we are not our own but God bought us with his blood’. Now the Spirit of God does not dwell in the four walls of church but in us. Our body is temple for our God. God lived in Jesus that is why Jesus called his body ‘the temple of God’. God lives in his children who truly love him.

Read - John 4:21-24, Revelations 21:22-27. Because, God was not living in people in Old Testament days, He wanted to live in a temple, that’s why God made Solomon to construct a temple for Him. You have to go to church to worship God along with other God’s children who have the Spirit in them.

God chooses people who really love him and pure in heart. God decides a day to show himself to an individual. The day you are given the Spirit of God, is the day of your salvation. If you don’t accept Jesus as your savior you will not be given the Holy Spirit of God.

By knowing this truth, if anybody deliberately sins against God (disobeys God’s word) God’s wrath is upon him. Before Jesus came into this world people perished as animals except the chosen ones. But after God sent his son as a savior, there is no excuse for the people. They have to face the judgment of God and face the hell.

If all children of God come together and worship God, who restored our Spirit, made us live while we were still dead, those praises honor the God and exalts His name and His son Jesus Christ’s name who died for our iniquities and redeemed us from our sins.

Whoever accepts Jesus Christ as his/her savior with true heart receives Holy Spirit. God is going to establish His kingdom very soon on this earth. Bible says – every knee should bow down and every tongue should confess Jesus as their savior.

Pray to God and get baptized with water and Holy Spirit of God.

Let us fervently seek the true baptism in the Holy Spirit, so as to be cleansed and be made like Jesus

The Church of Jesus was born on the day of Pentecost. Before then, the disciples of the Lord Jesus were led by the Holy Spirit who was with them, but Jesus had said: "He will come and dwell within you. He is going to live in your hearts, right inside you; in bodies, which are the temples of the Holy Spirit". To accomplish that, Jesus had to ascend into heaven; then, from above, he caused the glorious outpouring of the Holy Spirit we read about in the second chapter of Acts. Galatians 3, verses 13 and 14 verses show us that God’s ultimate purpose was to fill us with His Holy Spirit and at long last ! God had been waiting for thousands of years to be able to do that, ever since He had created the world and since Adam and Eve had sinned. God had been waiting for the day when He could fill His children with His Spirit. In Galatians 3:13 we read: "Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law by being made a curse for us". He was nailed to that cross and He died on it. "For it is written: Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree." Why, then, did Christ hang from that tree, why was He nailed to it? Why did He die on it? Verse 14 tells us why: "in order that somebody has to pay the price for the sins of entire mankind so that the blessing of Abraham might come to Jews and Gentiles through Jesus Christ, so that we might receive Spirit through faith." So, we see why Jesus became a curse for us on that cross. He was made a curse so that the blessing of Abraham might be ours, and so that we might receive the promise of the Spirit. We could not have received the Spirit before then: first, Jesus had to die; He had to atone for our sins, ascend into heaven and pour out His Spirit. God’s purpose is now fulfilled: Hallelujah! We need to be enabled to live in a way that brings honor to the Lord; we need to receive Holy Spirit baptisms that are true Holy Spirit baptisms, because when we read the Book of Acts, when we see what a radical change came about in the lives of the disciples from the day they receive the Holy spirit, it is obvious that they received something very special, something we all need today. We cannot live as nominal Christians in this world. Of course we can go on existing as dead in sight of God, but without being filled with Holy Spirit we cannot demonstrate the LIFE of God. To be filled with God’s Spirit is more than just speaking in tongues, or exercising the spiritual gifts: it is to be filled with the very LIFE and nature of GOD, in order to bear His fruit, and be like Jesus, as we live in this world. That is what God gives us His Holy Spirit for. We see how deeply those Jewish disciples were changed. Before, they were fearful, they lacked power, they lacked love, they lacked God's gifts, they lacked fruits of spirit, and they lacked everything. They were exactly like us. Jesus said to them: " I am going to send you the promised gift of God. Don’t you leave Jerusalem before you receive power from on high, the Holy Spirit whom I will pour out upon you. Don’t you move till then! " Without the Holy Spirit, God can’t produce the fruit He wants to produce in their lives, and they can not do the will of the Father. Even Jesus had to wait for the filling of the Holy Spirit to perform the God’s will: remember how He began His ministry. He didn’t begin before He was baptized by John the Baptist in the River Jordan, and you know what had took place when He came out of the water: the Holy Spirit came down from the above in the form of Dove and remained in Him, and that was when he began His ministry. He already had the Holy Spirit, but that was when He received Him with power from on high, as an anointing that came upon Him. When his Spirit united with the Holy Spirit from above, He came into the fullness of the Spirit, the fullness of the ministry of the Holy Spirit, and that was when the Spirit led Him into the wilderness where he encountered the devil. He overcame devil; after a forty-day fast, He prevailed over the evil and it was only then, He began to minister in the power of the Holy Spirit. So, even Jesus didn’t begin His ministry before receiving the Holy Spirit from above. When He was tested in the wilderness, He demonstrated His consecration to His Father. Jesus knew that he was one hundred percent consecrated to Father’s purposes, but He had to be tested. The devil also knew that Jesus was consecrated, but our Lord had to be tested, to prove to His Father, to the whole world, and to the devil, that he had consecrated His whole life, spirit, soul, and body was dedicated to serve the Lord. In the third chapter of Matthew, about baptism in water and in Holy Spirit, John the Baptist declares: "I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me will come one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire (test). His fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his threshing-floor." Yes, after Jesus was glorified he sent the same Holy Spirit, which was remained in Him when he walked on this earth to us, to be filled with and serve God with his Knowledge but not with our knowledge. The lost spirit in Adam has to be restored in our bodies so that we should be made PERFECT and LIVE, because without spirit we are dead in sight of God. The day you receive the spirit, is the day of your salvation. Come out of acting world into reality. Spirit is truth. Receive it. “The Father in heaven gives the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him” Lu: 11:13.
